Description:  Because the NYS Barge Canal-the Erie Canal-follows the Mohawk River so closely from Amsterdam to Utica, the tracks are never far away. One such place is Cranesville, near Amsterdam. The locks are open to the public, and make a great picnic spot, and a great place to watch the trains, such as this 125 car westbound rolling past Lock 10

Description:  One of the great places to watch trains on the Chicago Line was the NY Barge Canal Lock 10 at Cranseville. Lots of room to picnic, and the action was almost constant. Here TV 12 rolls east with a standard set of power for the time. Trailing are 36 stack platforms and 66 TOFC. Theres a JB Hunt container at far left of the frame. I didnt know it then, but four months later I would be pulling those all over the eastern half of the country.
