BNSF 3992
Title:  BNSF 3992
Description:  BNSF 3992 the only unit I could manage a picture of while she ducks below the Columbia River Train Bridge (and sunset) using the brand new tunnel express lane to by-pass the yard and mainline (overhead) to get to the west/northern leg of the Port of Vancouver yard, parcels, and reversing loop. Little did folks know it was also integral to the new planned (currently on hold, though) oil-by-rail-to-port dock which would potentially be the largest on the west coast... if not for the fall in oil and gas prices, potentially wouldve already been a "done" deal. Oddly enough, the environmentalists seem to predominantly feel the delay is all their doings and lawsuits (odd, since the deal has already been approved and green-lighted from what I can tell). Im just a little shocked it wouldve only sported four unit trains a day emptying the Dakotas and ilk of their oil shale production through our City... heck, I counted more than that, it seemed, back when gas prices were high shuffling north out of Vancouver in the Felida area - seeing at least six during daylight hours. Eh, then again, what do I know? I thought Norfolk Southern wouldve been part of BNSF by now.

UP 5332 - CP 9778
Title:  UP 5332 - CP 9778
Description:  UP 5332 - CP 9778 in the deep shadows of sundown, the third unit behind them lost in angle and darkness as we bid goodnight to the sun this winter in the throat to the Port of Vancouver reversing loop. Remarkably enough, we finish the day nearly a foot behind on rainfall and a year of drought. Who wouldve guessed just over a week later the drought would be officially broken, all the reservoirs refilled, and snow falling in the upper levels for next years water - back to a normal year in the rain gauge making up the entire previous eleven month deficit in that short period of time. It was certainly nice while it lasted and I havent even started to complain about the deluge (yet) remembering the past year of good weather, sun, and dry photographic opportunities.

CREX - BNSF 4365 - BNSF
Title:  CREX - BNSF 4365 - BNSF
Description:  CREX - BNSF 4365 - BNSF triple in the dark with United Grain off in the distance (size is deceptive - possibly close to a mile away... or maybe it only seems that way... if I were smarter, Id spend more time on the map and see, and less time standing out in the rain and wind snapping these pitiful things).

UP 5374 - CP 9351 - UP 5524
Title:  UP 5374 - CP 9351 - UP 5524
Description:  UP 5374 - CP 9351 - UP 5524 triple near trio CREX-BNSF-BNSF on the Port of Vancouver / BNSF loop down in the west/northwest sliver of the Vancouver Industrial / Port area where a long line of Canadian Geese quickly waddle away from the insane humanoid out in the pouring rain attempting to snap pictures of trains in the dark a few moments after four oclock in the late afternoon/early evening. (unfortunately no matter how I tried I wasnt able to coax any meaningful data off the CREX trio. Dang. Thought it somewhat humorous to have the Canadian Geese as foreground to Canadian Pacific work-horse. The glowing lights of United Grain in the distance.

UP 5374
Title:  UP 5374
Description:  UP 5374 nose to the west-northwest and the reversing loop early evening in the rain and wind (the red appearance in the registry board is potentially that infamous red shift that occurs as objects more quickly away from each other (Doppler effect with light) potentially caused by the photographer trying to stand in one spot while the wind howls blistering splats of rain against him, the poor little pocket snapper camera lens racked out and sensor pushed beyond reason. "Huh? Because its a fun hobby, why do you ask?"

BNSF 7959
Title:  BNSF 7959
Description:  BNSF 7959 in the two of four slot on nearest quad group - and look closely at the diesel tank... the semi-vertical brush strokes give a mild indication of the heavy down-pour falling on the intrepid photographer, but doesnt hint at the complete lack of light (or common sense) just a couple minutes after four in the afternoon/early evening.

BNSF 6975
Title:  BNSF 6975
Description:  BNSF 6975 on point... if youre playing this scene backwards... in reality, an unusual DPU pair at the rear of a northbound covered hopper consist gathering speed moving out of Vancouver as the rains decide to return after a brief threat of skipping a day of rain for December; the clearing behind the trees is Vancouver Lake.

BNSF 7168 & BNSF 6719
Title:  BNSF 7168 & BNSF 6719
Description:  BNSF 7168 & BNSF 6719 ready-and-waiting in the December rains in the pre-sort yard near Subaru off-loading dock (to the right of the frame) at the entrance of the reversing loop (nearly directly behind the photographer in this image)... almost eleven in the morning and still looking like a night shot; but Im not complaining! Twenty-seven of the last twenty-eight days were all rain, were possibly looking at almost a foot-and-a-half of rain since December one, but its all worth it after the past eight months of beautiful shooting weather. Im sorry, but after all that nice weather, getting all upset about global warming is a little tough (just kidding... I think... but it is nice to be neutral feeling about rain instead of, "Wow. What a shock. Another day of rain.")

BNSF 2112
Title:  BNSF 2112
Description:  BNSF 2112 hauling a mixed freight up and out of the lower yard beside Northwest Pack and United Grain (all to the right of the frame), a portion of the Port of Vancouver / Vancouver Industrial in the near background (the hills barely visible in the distant background are actually Oregon on the other side of the Columbia River) up and into the wonderful sun on New Years Eve in Vancouver under clear, blue (but chilly) skies.

United Grain Republic
Title:  United Grain Republic
Description:  United Grain appears to have a new Republic little workhorse running around now that the old, venerable 1000/1200/1500s seem to have disappeared. While it is bright, shiny, and new (and potentially smells better than the old ones), its a little sad to see them gone as 2015 draws to a close. Of course, it would be nice if this is to become the active unit a registry number would be welcomed (and maybe make up for the horrid little noises the thing makes compared to a real train engine (no insult intended, but it sounds like a lawn-mower).

BNSF 4131
Title:  BNSF 4131
Description:  BNSF 4131 in second place - and as fast as the consist is losing speed, the rain fall is picking up pace making this more uncomfortable - a bad indication having gone from dodging a traffic jam to trying to snap trains. Danged if you do, danged youll get poked fun at when you return home having not made the trip to Portland, but being soaked to the bone. I guess I can live with that.

BNSF 4603
Title:  BNSF 4603
Description:  BNSF 4603 as five-of-six at the front of a westbound mixed freight proving that as fast as Rapido can generate the livery, the prototype can change - A/C unit in pastel orange, but closer to BNSF pumpkin orange than the old ATSF silver units were. Good thing I model in L gauge/scale - I just have to pop off the light grey brick and put in a light orange one... just as soon as I can find that color. (What? "L" gauge... Lego... no, seriously. Model railroading for the cheapskate. How so? All you folks have to completely repaint, then re-weather, then... well, you get the idea - to catch up to changing livery. Me? Like I said - pop off a brick, stick on a new one (Fine - because of interlocking, I have to disassemble the upper layer above it, but you get good as elevating along the fault line and trick popping the brick out so you can seat the new one.)

BNSF 8451
Title:  BNSF 8451
Description:  BNSF 8451 at the front of two rolling west with a line of covered hoppers; and after my joke previously about steering to avoid... it seems justified within the next couple frames Id have a clear shot of steerable trucks hitting the sensor (yes, I do know its for curve efficiency on these huge beasts (how in the heck did they manage on those old steam units?), but just found it funny... or maybe anti-funny, since presuming anything I type is "funny" in the first place is a longshot).
