December update: CP - NS merger has now been called off... see, Warren? You still have a chance....) and is instead trying to get that road-dirt livery figured out on the current BNSF (no "NS" emphasis bold in the middle) scheme. |

Not that she doesnt sport the super-neat CBRW hawk livery well, but - that NOSE! Its short! Last I saw CBRW 12 she was sporting a high-nose on both long- and short-ends. Wow - what a shock. Dont get me wrong, she looks nice like this, but, its just a shock. Um, yes, back to the report - shes on the entrance ramp down into the Connell yard waiting on the local in-bound to be dropped off by the Pasco crew thatll be coming soon... hopefully very soon as its extremely windy up here and not really any sun to keep you warm in the thirty-odd mph light breeze that is Connell late winter. |

BNSF 4125 |
Description: |
BNSF 4125 pushing and the only power unit on this southbound load of covered hoppers that found its way to my sensor... what can I say? For once in my life I was ahead - not just in the game, but the set, everything - completely skunked my very-much-better-than-me wife on the tennis court - not that Id ever make it public knowledge that after only a quarter century of playing tennis with her, I finally not only made her work to beat the stuffings out of me, but actually, without the benefit of injuries to her, won fair and square. So, yes, I admit, there was distraction and I missed the front units (although trying to catch silent southbounds from the tennis courts is much more challenging now that both Connell at-grade crossings are silent - because the noise doesnt come up to the courts until the units are already in the shooting range area from the end of the courts (if you run like a madman to get down to the end of the courts) - so, really, I didnt have to mention the fact that I was winning (and won), but being such a momentous occasion, deserved to be logged somewhere in the realms of recorded history (at least according to me. Did I mention twenty-five years of playing tennis with her and this is the first (and likely only) time I ever whomped her? (Update: Id almost have to presume unreported injury on her part, though, because this happened again within the next 48 hours as well - she managed to win only a random game here and there - so maybe not as great of an achievement as first thought. Maybe sometime in the next twenty-five years Ill do it again). |

BNSF 4629 |
Description: |
BNSF 4629 at the front of a pair heading up an empty northbound covered hopper group as sunset rapidly approaches (and I survived the tennis match... in victory, somehow - albeit having run my little fat butt all over the court to do it - but I did it! Twice in the same day! (Not that Im keeping track... for the first time... ever... in almost a quarter century) - oh, yes, the trains, theyre still going by, only now were headed back to the house amid the cries of the killdeer, doves, and whippoorwills. Oh, and Im supposed to mention the new livery - A/C of proper color, but the nose cone/safety cab is now in orange blush pumpkin instead of manly BNSF orange. |

Description: |
BNSF 8133 - BNSF 4994 - BNSF 4678 - BNSF 4365 leading a power quad double-stack out of the Palouse hills and into the north end of Connell (the ladder yard split off the main visible at the right of the frame, rail bits from all the work on the rumored double-tracking the main between the Tri-Cities and Spokane visible in the staging areas - although other rumors hold for a new yard outside of town (which would probably be very sad for me since Im just now getting used to traipsing around the sage-covered hills above this yard) under afternoon sun. (Thanks go to Sir Matt for correct power identification on BNSF 8133.) |
