BNSF 6022
Title:  BNSF 6022
Description:  BNSF 6022 on lead to some foreign power southbound in the through-lanes along the Vancouver yard. The new turn-table in the foreground - youd think they could pop for a quick sand-blasting of the door and a coat of paint with the price tag of the operation to move the round table from one side of 39th Street to the other - maybe thats on the to-do list. (I know - stupid railfans want _every_thing perfect... then again, provide me a sanctioned area to photograph trains (nothing fancy - just allow me to loiter on the public through-fare without asking name-rank-serial number and generally treating me like a criminal) and maybe Id whine a little less.

BNSF 4464
Title:  BNSF 4464
Description:  BNSF 4464 about 50 yards away from the camera and it required marked digital enhancement to read the registry numbers on her after getting home - gotta love the weather. Have no clue what she was hauling because that wouldve required seeing almost 100 yards away. (Ha! Actually she wasnt hauling anything in this shot - apparently it was a power shuffle.)

Title:  BNSF 7285

BNSF 8206
Title:  BNSF 8206
Description:  BNSF 8206 tailing a string of covered hoppers along the passing lane headed north in Vancouver - this string possibly a couple two/three cars short of a typical consist based on her two-fer head end location. As a side note, a little funny to see a mostly straight-side covered hopper from this angle between a couple of her bulged-belly sisters (the two (and part of a third) covered hoppers with higher skirts with thicker hems (dont hand me that - it _is_ manly to know something about sewing! - or at least confident enough in your masculinity to be seen frequently in the fabric store with your wife)).

BNSF 8232
Title:  BNSF 8232
Description:  BNSF 8232 bottom aimed to her destination up north sitting at number two in a string of likely empty hoppers for the return trip to wheatland USA and Canada - now that the strikes are all settled, the oil prices are dropping reducing the flow along the steel-rail pipeline, it would seem a good majority of the grain backlog has finally made its way to United Grain and the rest of the world. Sort of amazing to think we sit at the bottleneck of potentially feeding so many people.

BNSF 4780
Title:  BNSF 4780
Description:  BNSF 4780 the second on a double-header coal drag headed north - the entire consist having some sort of panel on the side... open debate among our crew as to what they are (see the rolling stock folder for additional images). Leading guesses: solar panels (really? Thats an interesting idea - completely shut down the generators in the power units, but have the necessary pumps and temperature kept active by passive solar power (okay - in locations other than the Pacific Northwest)) or some sort of environmental quality control - to help prove that rail transport of coal doesnt have a severe impact on air quality (especially compared to the unrealistic alternative of trucking all that coal along unkept highways (speeding the infrastructures demise)) - any actual information would be great! Comment away and set us straight - thanks! (Please note, this and additional images were challenged by darkness, rainfall, and wind.)

BNSF 6995
Title:  BNSF 6995
Description:  BNSF 6995 ready to push on a northbound string of (probably) empty covered hoppers... but the more interesting aspect is the scenery behind - way behind. In an odd twist of fate, no fog, no active rain and some sun on the hills over in Oregon. If you look closely, you can see the end of the Port of Vancouver buildings in the near distance, followed by a medium sized cargo vessel docked at the northwestern end of the Port of Vancouver (white conning tower of ship, single white Vancouver crane) in the Columbia River and the start of the Port of Portland (Oregon) container crane lane (blue cranes) (which as of this writing at the end of February is now becoming quite silent with Hanjin having pulled out of Portland due to labor disputes - quite a big deal when you supply about 80% of the shipping traffic to those cranes and the entire area here in Portland-Vancouver) most likely near Kelley Point in Oregon (but dont hold me to it - its been a long time since Ive tried to drive down into that section of Portland... if anything like Vancouver present-day, no one is allowed down into the area (unlike days of old where a wrong turn once put me on a ramp going up into a cargo ship... wait, maybe keeping out the general public _is_ a good idea - just kidding - obviously driving slowly, just reversed back down the incline to the regular road (amazing the differences in security from 1985 and 2015 - then it elicited a laugh from the people watching instead of handcuffs). It shows just how close we are to Oregon - the train bridge is down to the left of the frame, then hooks away at an angle at the wye with the Amtrak Station for the turn-style bridge leading across the river. And, yes, for those of you counting - there really are only two vehicular bridges and a single train bridge spanning the two cities here.

BNSF 4885 - CDTX 2012
Title:  BNSF 4885 - CDTX 2012
Description:  BNSF 4885 - CDTX 2012 with others (which I do have clear images of so _could_ have listed all registry numbers to prove this was intentional!) proving every so often everyone has to break down and shoot an artsy shot - all in camera without special digital effects - only getting as low to the hot (_hot_! In Vancouver! In February!) rails under bright sun and shooting below a bridge way the heck up the tracks from the station racking out the zoom to put as much color across the frame as possible... and resisting the urge to digitally enhance the color saturation further than as-found (stupid "as-found" society!).

BNSF 4991
Title:  BNSF 4991
Description:  BNSF 4991 leading a covered hopper consist north - at least when she gets a green - paused in the scattered, what are those? We dont have them around here usually - I asked someone from another part of the country and he said, "They call those things shadows and theyre often associated with bright sun." Huh, go figure... sha-dough - guess it makes sense, like dough splatter on stuff - probably has to do with the warmer temperature and this weird rain that you cant see or feel.

BNSF 6859
Title:  BNSF 6859
Description:  BNSF 6859 at the rear ready to push the just-under-a-mile-long string of covered hoppers northward - the lead engine pair is just a stones throw this side of the blue-colored Fruit Valley Road - Lake Shore Drive bridge/over-pass - funny, it doesnt look that long from this angle (usually this shots not visible as the tree limb is weighed down by rain water and down-draft) - all under the setting sun light and long shadows.

BNSF 5613
Title:  BNSF 5613
Description:  BNSF 5613 showing up as the back of a triple-header with northbound mixed freight, but enjoying her place in the sun while the first two pull beyond the typical stopping/pausing point at this particular crew change/passing lane point at the Fruit Valley-Lake Shore over-pass.

BNSF 6848(with DODX flats) meets/passes BNSF 9524
Title:  BNSF 6848(with DODX flats) meets/passes BNSF 9524
Description:  BNSF 6848(with DODX flats) meets/passes BNSF 9524 leading mixed freight. Sorry for all the excess pixel in this image, but it shows the new siding leading up to the new turn-table (mast can be made out just to the left of the new light tower in the mid-distance - the mast frame of the turn-table just visible over the closest boxcar on that string of mixed freight in the sort yard). This view is looking south off the Fruit Valley-Lake Shore Drive over-pass with 39th Street over-pass marking the mid-yard point. The passing lane to the double main is the right-most track currently with BNSF 9524 and her line of mixed hodge-podge (usually its covered hoppers sitting there). All this under (wonderful) harsh sun... most of the puddles have since evaporated or drained off.

BNSF 8266 with BNSF 6848
Title:  BNSF 8266 with BNSF 6848
Description:  BNSF 8266 with BNSF 6848 (mostly hidden) on a DODX empty flat string going south and passing the little local cut BN 12216 riding platform guarding the rear in the exhaust-wash squiggles and orange BNSF 2236 in the far distance (barely visible). The passing lane exits stage on the frame left off BNSF 8266s starboard side where BNSF 9524 triple sits waiting for a clear.
