Pushing them in
Title:  Pushing them in
Description:  When Metro North and CDOT bought new equipment, it was push pull. The engines generally run on the east end of the train, so on the branch, they are physically on the north end, making good lighting a challege. This pair is at Wilton, pushing the train toward Grand Central. The station here is attractive, and had the power been leading with the New Haven unit on the point, it would have been a classic New Haven shot.

M 2s
Title:  M 2s
Description:  A train of New Haven Line M 2s rolls down the center track at Larchmont. As you go through this group of photos, note the markings on the front of the trains. Some carry the original "M New Haven" herald. Others, like the train in this photo, have the newer "M-ball" with Metro North lettering. Some have the Connecticut DOT and state seal; others have just the state seal. Quite a variation.

Headed for Danbury
Title:  Headed for Danbury
Description:  The stars of the show in the late 80s were the four FL 9s that CDOT repainted in the New Haven McGinis scheme. They were intended for the Danbury trains, but as a practical matter, because maintenance was done at Harmon, they could turn up just as easliy on the Hudson Line. This pair is going where God and the New Haven intended as they roll north through Woodlawn.

FL 9s
Title:  FL 9s
Description:  The FL 9s still had over 20 years left in them at this point, though it was apparent that they would not last forever. It was worth spending and afternoon watching the rush hour to see these distinctive units, such as this pair headed for Danbury with new Bombardier cars.

These cars are the Bomb
Title:  These cars are the Bomb
Description:  Bomardier!!! As the hand me down cars of the streamliner era bit the dust, it was apparent they would need to be replaced. The answer was a fleet of cars built by Bombardier in Vermont. 125th St next
Title:  125th St next
Description:  A Grand Central bound train arrives at Tarrytown. Ill jump on here, as Im headed to my cousins wedding in New York. I had driven down from Binghamton, and rather than go to Manhattan and pay a ridiculous amount of money to park after fighting the traffic, Ill get off at Grand Central and walk the seven blocks to St Bartholomew. It was a good plan. The wedding was at 4 PM, I had left upstate at 1130 to make this 244 PM train. I even had time for a hot dog on the way up from Grand Central. It took my brother two hours to get into the city from Jersey.
