Description:  After a halt at Stroebe (out-of-frame to left), a CN through freight crosses over from the former C&NW rails to the former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, WI on 3 Feb. '18. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails.

Description:  CN through freight passes Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 as it heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line (now relegated to a passing siding) at Neenah, WI on 3 Feb. '18. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. The former SOO main line, also in use by CN, is in the foreground. I had photographed this same train at Stroebe, WI two hours earlier.

Description:  CN through freight heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line (now relegated to a passing siding) at Neenah, WI on 3 Feb. '18. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are partially visible in the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. The former SOO main line, also in use by CN, is in the foreground. I had photographed this same train at Stroebe, WI two hours earlier. I am curious to learn where the new turnout (stacked in pieces between the tracks) will be installed.

Description:  A CN through freight passes a halted through freight as it enters the former SOO main line from Dixie Siding, a remnant of the former C&NW main line, and approaches Dixie Rd. to head southwest at Town of Vinland, Winnebago Co., WI on 17 May '18. Moving through freight had two locomotives, CN 5656 and CN 2106. Stationary through freight had three locomotives, CN 8820, CN 2562, CN 26xx (possibly CN 2610).

Description:  A CN through freight passes the depot/yard office and approaches W. 2nd St. as it heads northeast past the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 12 Sep. '19. The white building beyond the train is the former home of the Harry H. Long Moving and Storage Co., 1001 S. Douglas St., Appleton, WI. This building dates to at least 1953, when it was listed in the local directory (it was not listed in ’51). The building has a spur, but it hasn’t been used for quite a while (except for occasional MoW equipment). Now called Harry H. Long Moving Storage & Express, Inc., the company, founded in 1917, is still family owned. It moved to a larger facility in Town of Clayton, Winnebago Co., WI in 2001.
