MP SD50 5004 at Cotter, Arkansas on March 11, 1989, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This is a unit coal train to a power plant at Newport, Arkansas. I witnessed the unloading process on another train and the power will stay coupled to the train as it is pulled through the rotary unloader by the power plant's mechanical arms. I was surprised to find out the rotary was operated by a plant employee, not a railroad employee. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to inspect the condition of each piece of rolling stock as it turned upside down. |
