Description:  Great photo of the Burnham, Wms & Co. AT&SF 2-10-2 972 built in February, 1904. Original specs - serial #23764, class 900, 57" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 19x32" high pressure cylinders, 32x32" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 287,240 lb, tractive effort of 57,314 lb., rebuilt to simple in 1918 at San Bernardino with 28X32 cylinders and 57" drivers. The loco survived until it was sold for scrap to the Hyman-Michaels Company on 11/4/1949. From the Harold K. Vollrath collection

Description:  A proud crew poses by the impressive and long ATSF 2-10-2 #972. Built by Baldwin in February of 1904 as a compound 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive, it was simplified at the San Bernardino Shops in August of 1918. The loco lasted on the ATSF roster until being sold for scrap to the Hyman-Michaels Company on November 4, 1949. Rebuilt specs - 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x32" cylinders, engine wt of 317,400 lb, tractive effort of 74,800 lb. Ralph H. Payne photo
