Title:  L&N 4-6-2 245
Description:  Louisville & Nashville locomotive 245 was about to cross Poydras Street as it rolled along the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The train was on its way from the L&N station at the foot of Canal Street, where the passengers got off, to Julia Street Yard, where the train would be turned and serviced. The 245 was the last of six K-5 class light Pacifics (240-245) assigned to the L&N by the United States Railroad Administration during the First World War. It had been built by the American Locomotive Co.’s Richmond Works in 1919 and was retired on 22 June 1954.

Description:  Here was a view of Poydras Street from the Louisville & Nashville tracks along the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The Pacific Fruit Express refrigerator car peeking out on the left was on a Southern Pacific track.

Title:  L&N Train No. 10
Description:  Coming out of the afternoon sun, Louisville & Nashville 4-6-2 245 powers train No. 10 across the Southern Railway main line at NO&NE Tower (milepost 802.7). Just a few years after this photo was taken, NO&NE Tower was replaced with a new brick structure named N.E. Tower. At about the same time, train No. 10 was discontinued. The 245 was the last of six K-5 class light Pacifics (240-245) assigned to the L&N by the United States Railroad Administration during the First World War. It was built by Alco-Richmond in 1919 and retired on 22 June 1954. (approximate day of photo)

L&N Train No. 7
Title:  L&N Train No. 7
Description:  Louisville & Nashville local Number 7 has just passed through Gentilly Yard (milepost 800.4) and crossed the Industrial Canal drawbridge (milepost 801.4). The train was scheduled into New Orleans at 3:45 P.M., after a 12-hour trip from Montgomery, Alabama. It was established in 1946 and discontinued in September 1953. The switch in the foreground was the connection with the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, at the north end of the GM&O's Canal Yard.

The train was powered by K-5 class 4-6-2 245. This was one of six light Pacifics (240-245) assigned to the L&N by the United States Railroad Administration during the First World War. These were built by Alco-Richmond in 1919, after the end of the War. After the USRA was abolished, the railroad got 20 more K-5's: Baldwin built eight (264-271) in 1923 and Alco-Brooks constructed 12 (272-283) in 1924. The 245 was retired on 22 June 1954.
