Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2502, #2544, and #2507. All three are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2502 and #2507 were built in 1962, but #2544 was built in 1965. They are pulling an eastbound mixed-cargo freight around the Horseshoe Curve and down to Altoona and points East. |

Here is a photo from David W. Seidel's 2008 book entitled "Images Of Rail: Horseshoe Curve," page 69. Partial Caption: "During June 1962, the PRR operated new General Electric U-25B diesel-electric locomotives 2500, 2508, and 2502 over Horseshoe Curve. Rated at 2,500 horsepower, they are equipped with train-phones and dual controls. Railroaders dubbed them 'U-Boats.'" Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2500, #2508, and #2502.
