SBC 2309 - Mexicali BC, México - 11/14/81
Title:  SBC 2309 - Mexicali BC, México - 11/14/81
Description:  A pair of Ferrocarril Sonora–Baja California diesels switch cars in the SBC's rail yard in Mexicali, Baja California, on November 14, 1981. A pair of SBC GP40-2s, two-year-old 2309 and high-nosed 2108 (built in 1973), drag a cut of freight cars in the Mexicali yard. At the border with the United States (not too much farther than the radio tower in the distance), the SBC interchanges with the Southern Pacific. Note that SBC 2309 wears the colors of Nacionales de México, indicating that the era of independent Mexican railroads would soon be drawing to a close, when the SBD was absorbed into NdeM in 1987. (Other independent railroads in México were merged with the NdeM in the 1980s as well.)
