Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (L to R) is PRR engine #6302 and two other units whose numbers are not visible. All are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They are in the middle of an ore train and are helping to move it up the Allegheny Mountains. Note that the eastbound coal train pulled by PRR engine #9530 is still stopped on the far right track.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6302, an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,750 horsepower. It's parked just West of the Altoona Station, awaiting its next passenger helper run up "The Mountain" to Gallitzin and back. Photo taken adjacent to Altoona's 17th Street Bridge. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Diesels On The Pennsylvania" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (819-41).

Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here are the Locomotive Ready Tracks below the 17th Street Bridge; many makes and models are represented. Of the 40 or so locomotives visible, the following are identifiable by number. Starting from the right are PRR engines #7118, #7124, #9662, #6302, and #6308. #7118 and #7124 are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #9662 is an EF-15A built by EMD in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #6302 and #6308 are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each.

Description:  Brickyard. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains at the Brickyard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 18 July 1965. On the right (R to L) are PRR engines #6307 and #6302. Both are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company during 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They are pushing a 68-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. On the left (R to L) are PRR engines #2357, #2535, #7112, and #7033. #2357 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are pulling ~ or, rather, braking ~ an 83-car eastbound mixed-cargo freight train with caboose #477031. That's the Brickyard Crossing in the foreground!

They are about to pass under the 7th Street Bridge on their way to East Altoona to get ready to make another helper/pusher run up to Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back.
