CB&Q E8 9964
Title:  CB&Q E8 9964
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9964 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on May 1, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 9964 was built in August 1952 (c/n 16705) on EMD Order 2048A, became BN 9964 and was sold for scrap May 28, 1975 to Naporano Iron & Metal, Newark, New Jersey. There appears to be ample power on this three car Dinky. It was the practice of the CB&Q to rotate the passenger locomotives between suburban commuter trains (Dinkys) and Zephyr assignments, generally lasting about a week. At the end of the week, the E's assigned to suburban service were all in Aurora. The locomotives were generally ganged up and returned to Chicago for service and rotation into Zephyr service. On late Friday evening, as many as five or six E units would head a single gallery car back to Chicago. This is Saturday morning, and this Dinky has an extra locomotive which will likely be on a Zephyr in a day or so.

CB&Q E8 9964
Title:  CB&Q E8 9964
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9964 eastbound on Train #18, the California Zephyr, at Naperville, Illinois on March 1, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in August 1952 (c/n 16705), the first of six E8's built on EMD Order 2048. These six units were purchased by the Burlington to complete the dieselization of the suburban service, with the last steam powered dinky running a month after delivery, September 26, 1952. These E8's were the first delivered to the Q with stainless steel side panels and Farr Air grills. The previous orders of E8's had painted panels, and some of the earlier units were subsequently retrofitted with stainlees steel panels. This unit became BN 9964 after the merger and was retired and sold for scrap May 28, 1975.
