TV16a with a string of GP40-2s
Title:  TV16a with a string of GP40-2s
Description:  The GP40-2 was to Conrail what the Pontiac Trans Am was to high school - insular, fast, and snazzy. CR 3281 was a part of CR's first GP0-2 order which were delivered in Spring of 1977. The TV16 dated back to New York Central days and was a combined trailervan, autoracks train. TV16 would come in with the loaded autoracks behind the last vans. TV16 went in at CP-5 for running 1 or 3 Bellman's Creek and the cut was made behind the last North Bergen right on running 1 or 3. A local would bring the rear end crew up to Bellman's Creek to make the cut.

You're up close as westbound tonnage crawls by on the world famous Horseshoe Curve. Sanders on, flanges squealing and exhaust screaming, is there another place like it on earth?

WABH 11 and memories
Title:  WABH 11 and memories
Description:  WABH 11, the Binghamton based CR local, rolls a cut of empty hoppers out of the NYSEG Goudy station through the abandoned factories of Johnson City. I can recall in the mid 80s, seeing a car or two here, but by this time, there was nothing left there. This was once the DLW main, running through the south side of downtown. Going west, it will cross the Susquehanna on a large through truss bridge, then curve through Vestal as it heads out of the area, running on the south side of the river. The ROW in Vestal is now a hiking/bike trail, and much of it west of there is NY 17 as far as Elmira.

Down the main
Title:  Down the main
Description:  WABH 11 rolls down the DLW main, now reaching west BD-see the signal above the engine-where it will get onto the remaining part of the DLW main to get back to downtown Binghamton. The empties will either be picked up by OIBU or OIEL, or if there is a whole train(90 cars) and a UNG coming, that power will turn with them.

Coal empties on the Vestal Spur
Title:  Coal empties on the Vestal Spur
Description:  By the 1980s there was little traffic on the Vestal Spur, except for National Pipe and Plastic, which was the last customer on the Vestal side of the river; and NYSEG's Goudy Station in Johnson City. Here WABH 11 is pulling empties past the abandoned factories of Johnson City. This was once the 70 MPH DL&W main line.

Off the Corning Secondary
Title:  Off the Corning Secondary
Description:  The Southern Tier picnic train comes off the Corning Secondary onto the Southern Tier, rolling behind the yard office and shop off the 1951 connection to the Erie. This was part of the line relocation that took the tracks out of downtown Corning, where they ran in the street. The NYC line ran on the Erie to what is now CP Corning, under the NY 414 overpass, where the ex NYC line splits to head north along Seneca Lake, connecting with what is now the CSX Chicago Line at Lyons. The GP 40 will pull the train through CP W Glass onto the Corning Secondary, clear the signal at North Glass, and cut off. It will go back to Gang Mills, the passenger train, now with the Es in the lead, will head east on the Tier.

Picnic train help
Title:  Picnic train help
Description:  The Southern Tier picnic train got a unit on the rear at Gang Mills to assist with the return trip on the Corning Secondary, since there was no place to turn the power at Hammond Lake. This GP 40 did the honors, sharing the job with a pair of E 8s on the head end.
