Title:  M&NA GP40 4003
Description:  Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad GP40 4003 at Cotter, Arkansas on an unknown day in December 2000, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This depot was built in 1906 by the Saint Louis Iron Mountain & Southern, became a Missouri Pacific Railroad depot upon merger in 1917, was briefly a Union Pacific Railroad depot between 1982 and 1992, and then became a M&NA facility. Between 1916 and 1950 this depot had a second floor for the chief dispatcher and trick dispatchers as well as the car distributor. The early plan had been for a full second floor, but only the half above the bay window was completed. There was also a high water mark on the depot, roughly four feet up from the ground. To the right about a quarter mile is the White River which would periodically flood, putting the yard under water.

Description:  Headed down the ex-MP were these 2 GP40's running long hood forward with rock in tow. You might have noticed the ex-MP Caboose on the rear of the train. The train was headed from Kansas City down to Nevada to do some MOW Work on the MNA Clinton Branch, which is ex-MKT.

Description:  Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad SD45T-2 9391 at Cotter, Arkansas on May 1, 2011, digital image by Chuck Zeiler. The trailing units are: MNA GP40 4003, HCLX SD40-2 7000, and MNA GP40 4012. They are parked and shut down. A derailment ahead of this train in Izard County on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at about 2:00 PM has shut this part of the system down for a bit. From the photo in the local newspaper (Baxter Bulletin), it appears that due to a washout from the recent heavy rain, two locomotives and two boxcars slid off the tracks, and a couple of them ended up in the White River. It looks like one of the units was a CN locomotive, possibly in the 9500 series (it looks like # 9520 or maybe 9570), judging by the newspaper photo.

Description:  Delivered new to Missouri Kansas Texas as GP40 198 in August 1968, this locomotive entered the Union Pacific fleet in 1988 and became UP 504 on July 27,1990. On October 9, 1992, UP retired this GP40 and later sold it to RailTex which sent the 504 to Missouri & North Arkansas as MNA 4003. Recently assigned to DGNO, this old timer is at Mercer Yard undergoing mechanical work partially disassembled. Note the dent above the radiator intake, a scar from an accident on MNA in 2004. The step well damage is from an unknown incident on DGNO.
